Our Motivation
Voya Sol exists because energy access has yet to be universal and because power should be scalable.
One billion people globally do not have access to electricity. Sub-Saharan Africa has an electrification rate of 37% compared to the global electrification rate of 85%. Many of those without electricity access live in informal settlements and rural areas. The lack of electricity has multifaceted consequences: kerosene dependence poses serious health and fire hazards, children’s study hours are heavily limited, and economic development possibilities are hindered by the absence of power for lights and devices.
But the current options are inadequate. Currently available solar home systems are incapable of expanding as customers’ energy needs grow. Meanwhile national grid expansion plans are perpetually in gridlock due to high costs, political stigma, and power theft concerns.
